The aim of this thesis is to focus the spotlight towards the free trade negotiations between the United States of America and the European Union known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership which began in the summer of 2013. The goal is to analyze the subject as well as identifying what variables are best suited to explain the endeavor. Special interest will be on an academic analysis of the negotiations, as well as their economic and political characteristics. In order to fulfill the aim of this thesis a content analysis will be conducted on statements and speeches by a select number of high ranking officials on both sides of the Atlantic.
